Episode Synopsis

Spoilers Ahead!

Episode 1:
A Reunion

 

The start of it all.  The Seven Seals are introduced, each of whom receives a summon from Princess Hinoto.  To protect the Kamui of the Dragons of Heaven, to protect the future of Earth, they all head towards Tokyo.  At Togakushi Temple, Monou Kyougo is attacked by a caped Kamui, who attempts to wrest the Holy Sword from its guardian.  Meanwhile, Kotori dreams of the return of her childhood friend, Kamui, only to be shocked when he indeed shows up at school, exactly as she had imagined.  Unfortunately, he ignores her brother Fuma and insultingly brushes off Kotori.  After she leaves, he senses the gaze of a powerful presence and retaliates for the earlier fight between them.

 

Episode 2:
A Nightmare

 

Kotori recounts a tale of her childhood when she is saved by Kamui after falling off a tree.  However, this kind and sensitive boy has become cold and bitter as of late, beating up school bullies and insulting his old friend Fuma.  Saiki gets into a fight with Kamui and is shocked by his opponent's indifference to the safely of those around the battlefield, becoming convinced that he is not fighting the real Kamui of the Dragons of Heaven.  Sorata follows Kamui, getting into a minor fight with Yuto, before encountering Fuma outside of Kamui's residence.  They find him lying on the floor, bloody. 

 

Episode 3:
A Pledge

 

Back in Kamui's apartment, Sorata attempts to tell him the destiny foretold by Mt. Kouya's stargazer but is kicked out before he can finish.  Another unfortunate destiny is revealed; Kotori and Fuma's mother had sacrificed herself six years ago by giving birth to the Holy Sword.  After a reconciliatory encounter with Kotori, Kamui discovers Arashi spying on him and threatens her.  Later, he thanks Fuma for taking care of him, but continues his streak of attitude after Fuma recounts the childhood promise to protect Kamui at all costs.  At the same time, Nataku goes to Togakushi Temple, severly injuring Kyougo and stealing the sword.

 

Episode 4:
A Sacrifice

 

Kanoe gazes into the dreams of Hinoto and sees strange sight, two Kamuis, two Holy Swords.  In the laboratories of Tojiyo Pharmaceuticals, Nataku's stolen sword is analyzed and kept well-guarded.  Meanwhile, Kamui and Sorata talk when they are interrupted by the sister of Kamui's mother, Tokiko.  She reveals that his mother died as a kagenie, a sacrificial double fated to burden his pain and suffering.  At the same time, Arashi is attacked by suit-clad henchmen, and with the help of Aoki, defeat them soundly.  Eventually, Arashi, Sorata, and Kamui set out to seek Princess Hinoto.   

 

Episode 5:
A Destiny

 

Yuzuriha and Inuki are formally introduced in this episode.  They wander around Tokyo when they encounter Kusanagi, who has the ability to see the spirit-dog.  Meanwhile, the other Dragons of Heaven assemble to introduce themselves to Princess Hinoto.  After a dreamgazing encounter with Hinoto and Kanoe is rudely halted by the former, Kamui almost gets into a fight with his teammates.  Yuzuriha breaks the tension of the moment, only to realize that Seishiro has followed her in.  The team fights and manages to drive him away.

 

Episode 6:
Kouya

 

Flashback to Sorata's childhood, when he learns his destiny, to die protecting the woman he loves.  He has finally chosen that woman to be Arishi, much to her consternation.  Meanwhile, Fuma participates in his basketball game despite his worries about his injured father.  He is relieved when Kamui comes as a spectator, the first kind act of his former friend.  While the game goes on, Sorata and Arisu are attacked by Satsuki, who is eventually driven away. 

 

Episode 7:
Civer

 

The episode starts off with a pursuit as suit-clad men chase the bicycle-riding Satsuki around town.  Her past memories are revealed, a child in a lonely world of wires and machines.  Taking advantage of her amazing rapport with computers, her father forces her to engage in suspicious and clandestine activities.  Eventually she gets her revenge.  After the flashback, she is discovered by the mysterious men, but with the help of Yuto, they are summarily defeated. 

 

Episode 8:
Gemini

 

Fuma and Kotori's father is rapidly dying, and with his last breath, he reveals that Fuma is the Gemini to Kamui.  Elsewhere, Karen meets with Kamui and give him a note from his aunt, a promise to reveal the sword at Togakushi Temple.  Back at the temple, Kamui and Kotori are attacked by Seishiro, who spirit them away to his illusionary dimension.  Fuma comes at the last moment to save two.  At long last, Kanoe finally understands the meaning behind Hinoto's prophetic dreams and discovers Kamui's Gemini.

 

Episode 9:
Onmyou

 

A truly formalistic episode.  Arashi and Sorata attempt to contact Subaru of the esteemed Sumeragi estate.  He is himself on a mysterious errand to cure a woman's lovesick delusions.  Following a black cat, Subaru is met with strange and deadly illusions, some involving his deceased sister, Hokuto.  After an attack from Seishiro, he encounters the two Dragons of Heaven.  Before joining with them, he carries on his mission to dispel the lovelorn spells of a young woman lost in her world.

 

Episode 10:
Inuki

 

Out on a rendez-vous with Saiki to meet his uncle Aoki, Yuzuriha decides to pass the time by getting some ice cream for the two of them.  En route to get the snacks, she encounters Kusanagi at the park, with whom she decides to spend her afternoon.  She recounts her childhood stories about her stigmatization as a crazy girl claiming to have an invisible pet dog, and her adventures on a sojourn through the woods to view a majestic waterfall.  It is quite late after she finishes her tale, and she returns to join with Saiki and Aoki.

 

Episode 11:
Border

 

It begins with dream of Kotori, the kinds she has continuously over the years.  Then it focuses on the Kamui's childhood past.  Shunned because of his strange powers, he is endlessly harrassed by schoolmates and motorcycle toughs.  He reflects on the death of his mother who sacrificed herself with flames to become a kagenie.  Sadly, his aunt Tokiko too suffers a grisly fate as she dies in Togakushi Temple, giving birth to the second sword.

 

Episode 12:
Alternative

 

Reminiscent of her mother's death, Tokiko's bloody demise is witnessed by Kotori, who grows weak upon viewing such a painful sight.  She enters a world of dreams and encounters Kakyo, a dreamgazer for the Dragons of Earth.  Meanwhile, she physically relocated to the CLAMP instutution to recover, where the sword is to be sealed away from danger.  At this time, Kamui makes the decision to become a Dragon of Heaven, and his Gemini in Fuma is born.  The new rival abducts his sister and takes the sword, with it commiting the most horrible of fratricides.  

 

Episode 13:
Return

 

Understandably shaken, the Dragons of Heaven come together to mourn the loss of Kotori.  Yet their sadness is not felt by Fuma, who begins to awaken into his role as a Dragon of Earth.  Accompanied by Kakyo, he seeks his advisor in Kanoe.  As a result of the tragedy, Kamui becomes catatonic in despair.  It is up to Subaru to enter in his mind and persuade him to come out of his coma.  After revealing the loss of his own sister, Subaru tells Kamui to find hope in the future.  From that point on, Kamui's wish is to save Fuma, to not lose him like he has already lost Kotori.

 

Episode 14:
The Gathering

 

The Seven Seals assemble to pay their respects to Kotori and afterwards, head deep within the dark labyrinthine quarters of the CLAMP institution.  There, Kamui finally seals the sword, waiting for the day he is ready to wield the weapon.  Upon the sealing, Nataku breaks free from the laboratory and departs with the second sword.  The Seven Angels convene, ushuring the beginning of the end.  Kamui becomes angry at Hinoto because she had not disclosed the destined fate of Kotori.  She responds, saying that Kotori was destined to die, if not by Fuma's hand, then by his. 

 

Episode 15:
Guardian

 

It begins with a flashback to Saiki's youth, when Aoki tells him to use his powers a special someone.  Since then, he has been especially devoted to Princess Hinoto.  Whilst explaining the properties of a kekkai to Kamui, they notice an attack by the Dragons of Earth.  Fuma and Nataku are attacking the latter's former home, the laboratory, but shift their attention to Kamui and Saiki.  Saiki is ultimately killed by Fuma.  As Kakyo looks on, Hinoto mourns her protectorate's death, a fate that had been predetermined.

 

Episode 16:
Slaughter

 

After Saiki's death, Subaru steps in to combat Fuma.  He too falls to Fuma, yet instead of losing his life, he loses his right eye, a testament to his secret wish to resemble his beloved Seishiro.  But his greatest wish can only be granted by Seishiro himself.  They soon fight, and as Seishiro attempts the death strike, the attack is reflected and he is the one killed.  Subaru's sister, Hokuto, had cast a spell before she died by Seishiro's hand, that any attempt to kill her brother would be met with the antithesis.  In the end, Subaru has lost everyone he holds dear.

 

Episode 17:
Wish

 

A clip episode.  Entering the dreams of Kakyo, he is revealed to be a lonely figure longing for someone to fill his void.  He has feelings for Hokuto, who brings him happiness and sunshine in his gloomy dreams.  Next, Fuma appears, subtly threateningly offers an escape from an eternity of loneliness.  Finally, Kakyo encounters a dreaming Kamui, who reminisces about the events and tragedies of the past few days.  Kamui is treated to a spiritual meeting with Kotori, who encourages him to remain hopeful and decide the future for himself.

 

Episode 18:
Newborn

 

Kusanagi and Yuzuriha meet at an ice-cream parlor for a rendez-vous when suddenly, the malevolent presence of a  Dragon of Earth draws near.  Running off to investigate, Yuzuriha finds Satsuki, who asks her, "Why can't we kill humans?"  Unable to find an answer, the sadistic computer genius kills Inuki.  Kusanagi saves the young girl, and afterwards gives her the answer: there are people who cry for the death of their loved ones.  Yuzuriha confesses her thanks, and then her love for the man.  Later, she is attacked by Fuma, but her will to live returns and from the depths of her heart, a newborn Inuki is born. 

 

Episode 19:
Inferno

 

The young Karen suffered the pain of rejection from her mother because of her demonic powers.  Thus, she had trouble mourning her mother's death, and Karen continues to believe that no one can love her or cry for her.  She happens to overhear Aoki challenge Yuto to a fight.  Inviting her friend for a visit, she drugs Aoki's tea and embarks on the fight alone, knowing that Aoki's family will be deeply saddened if anything happened to him.  After disposing of Nataku, she is faces off with Yuto.  Just as things were looking bad for Karen, Aoki comes to save her.

 

Episode 20:
Ripple

 

Arashi's feelings for Sorata are almost too much to bear.  When Kamui, Sorata, Yuzuriha, and herself are asked by Princess Hinoto to protect Tokyo from another attack, she is paired up with Yuzuriha, who asks her about her feelings for the boy.  Suddenly, they are attacked by Fuma and are vastly overpowered.  Sensing the attack, Sorata and Kamui attempt to help the girls, but are commanded by the princess to stay in Ginza.  Sorata successfully summons his spirit demon to protect Arashi but is severely injured in the process.  The next day, they share their true feelings and love for each other.  And then, Arashi, alone,  heads off to face the Dragons of Earth.

 

Episode 21:
Current

 

Satsuki has been spending more time with Yuto and the BEAST is becoming quite jealous.  The Dragons of Heaven wonder where Arashi has disappeared.  Meanwhile, Karen and Aoki gear up for their next battle with Yuto, except this time, Satsuki has volunteered to fight.  As Aoki is immoblized by Satsuki, Karen comes to rescue him and severly injures Yuto.  When her attention shifts to her comrade, Yuto responds by immersing her in a watery column.  With all her power, Karen sacrifices herself to save Aoki, killing Yuto and herself in the process.  Satsuki cries one last time for her own fallen comrade before BEAST entombs the girl within itself.

 

Episode 22:
Betrayal

 

The dark, twisted personality of the weak and innocent Hinoto is finally revealed.  Kamui discovers the source of the suit-clad henchmen, the order to stay in Ginza, and the constant source of surveillance: Hinoto the betrayer herself.  After telling Sorata of his finding, the two are put under her spell.  Meanwhile, Yuzuriha is faces off with Nataku, while Aoki and Kusunagi battle nearby.  When he realizes Yuzuriha will lose, he betrays the Seven Angels and comes to her aid.  At the same time, Arashi exhibits her betrayal, severly injuring her former teammate's savior.  At the end, Hinoto commits suicide, free from her hated prophesies, and the seal of the Holy Sword is broken.

 

Episode 23:
Earth

 

The Dragons of Heaven are deeply stunned by Arashi's actions, especially Sorata, who acts particularly cold to him.  Most of the team is demoralized; Yuzuriha watches over the recuperating Kusanagi and Subaru remains catatonic without meaning in his life.  Aoki tells Sorata about Karen's explanation for leaving Sorata, that she absence is a sign of her love.  Sorata finally understands that she wishes to spare his destiny by defeating Kmaui.  Armed with the Holy Sword, Kamui engages in battle against Fuma, joined with Sorata and Arashi as their corresponding allies.  Displeased with Arashi, Fuma aims to kill her when Sorata stands in the way of the blade, massively injuring Fuma in the process.

 

Episode 24:
Legend

 

In its final act of piety, Nataku sacrifices its flesh to heal Fuma.  Kakyo also acts, secretly mentally preparing Kamui for his showdown, and with the help of Hokuto, encourages him to protect the lives of others.  Kamui and Fuma face off in a final confrontation.  After an engaging battle, Kamui falls victim to Fuma's sword and is badly injured.  As the seals of the earth begin to dissolve, Fuma raises his weapon for a final blow when Subaru appears, protecting his friend and raising his kekkai.  The onmyou urges him to look deep inside and discover a method to fulfill his final wish.  He understands.  Fuma resumes his attack, but Kamui does not defend.  Taking the fatal blow, he tells Fuma of the power of the heart, the loves and lives that dwell within one's soul, the spirit of lost ones and the commitment to fulfill their unforgotten wishes.  With that, Kamui transmits his wish to protect the earth and its inhabitants to his friend and rival.  A final kekkai encircles the globe, as Kamui's memories live on in the hearts of all those had has touched.
